Impact and accountability
Small numbers, and every one of them real
In 2026 we replaced our paper books with a records system covering every beneficiary, every naira and every distribution. This page sets out what it tells us and what we can show you.
Our figures
These come straight from our register. When the register changes, so do they.
- Widows on our register

- 8 have gone back to their own families

A child who has been with us at any point since 2024 is counted once in “cared for since 2024”. The children with us today are counted separately. We never add the two together.
8 of 8
children who have left our care went home to their own families
Our reunification record
23 children have been cared for at the home since 2024. 15 are with us today. The other 8 have left, and every one of them went back to their own family.
The United Nations Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children treat residential care as temporary, with a return to family as the aim wherever it is safe and in the child's interest. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.
We hold the documents for each child who has gone home. We do not publish the details of any child's placement or any family's arrangement with us, but we can evidence them to a funder, in confidence, on request.
How we account for it
Most charities ask you to trust them. We would rather show you. For each practice, this is what we can put in front of you.
Every beneficiary has a number
Each child holds a permanent KDC number and each widow a KDWE number. Every figure on this site is a count of those numbers, never an estimate.
We can show you: The register behind any figure, person by person.
Every distribution is signed for
Supplies are handed over against a printed list. Each person signs as they collect, and the signed sheet and photographs are filed against that batch.
We can show you: The signed sheet and photographs for any distribution.
Money is tagged by programme
Every naira in and out is recorded against one of five headings: the children's home, widows, outreach, administration and capital projects. Gifts to our current appeal, “A school bus for our children”, are recorded against it as well.
We can show you: What was received and spent under each heading, for any period.
Nobody waits twice as long
Distribution lists are ordered by who was served least recently, so support reaches people evenly and nobody is forgotten.
We can show you: When each widow on a list was last served.
Children are protected first
No child appears in our media without a guardian's recorded permission. The permission level is kept against the child's number and can be withdrawn at any time.
We can show you: Our safeguarding statement, and the consent record for any published image.
The records outlive any individual
Our records belong to the foundation, not to any one person. They are backed up and reviewed by our trustees.
We can show you: How our trustees review the records.
Doing due diligence?
We keep beneficiary-level records, programme-level accounts and signed distribution evidence. Tell us what your process needs and we will provide it.
